How are wake-word rate and false-wake rate measured and accepted?
Wake rate is successful wakes divided by total wake-word utterances, expressed as a percentage. False wakes are counted by playing audio that contains neither the wake word nor a homophone, over 24 hours or longer, and reporting the count. Response time is measured from the end of the wake word to the device’s first response. A useful acceptance document reports all three with the test corpus, playback level, and distance stated, because wake performance changes with all of them.
Key points
- Wake rate = successful wakes ÷ total utterances × 100%
- False wakes counted over 24 hours or longer using audio without the wake word
- Response time measured from the end of the utterance to first response
- Report the corpus, playback level, and distance alongside the numbers
- A rate without the test conditions is not a specification
