Does POS RF shield testing replace EMV contactless L1, L2, or payment certification?
No. A shielded test environment can form part of a specific R&D or production test, but it is not a substitute for EMV contactless Level 1, Level 2, or payment security certification. Those approvals follow their own specifications and have to be performed by the appropriate bodies. A shield box configuration, or a general wireless test result, cannot be used to claim certification has been passed.
Key points
- Shield testing verifies RF behaviour; certification verifies protocol and security conformance
- EMV L1 covers the physical and data-link layer, L2 covers the transaction application layer
- Both follow their own test specifications and accredited test houses
- A production screening result is evidence for your process, not for a compliance claim
- State the test boundary in the technical agreement so expectations stay accurate
