How do I calculate cycle time and UPH for a multi-antenna production test station?
Measure single-station cycle time first, then convert with UPH = 3600 ÷ CT (seconds) × stations × availability × parallel test efficiency. Cycle time must cover loading and unloading, lid or drawer motion, positioning, the test itself, and data upload — the instrument measurement time alone will overstate capacity. Multi-station configurations do not scale linearly, so correct the figure with a measured parallel test efficiency rather than a nominal one.
Key points
- Cycle time includes handling, actuation, positioning, test, and data upload
- Using instrument time alone overstates capacity significantly
- UPH = 3600 ÷ CT × stations × availability × parallel test efficiency
- Multi-station throughput is not a linear multiple; measure the parallel efficiency
- Availability should come from the line, not from a datasheet
